Why don't neurosurgeons implant adjustable valves into children with hydrocephalus? I was told by a neurosurgeon that pediatric neurosurgeons implant non-adjustable shunts into children because they don't want to be pestered by the parents of the children--the assumption is that parents of children with hydrocephalus would constantly demand valve adjustments, so the surgeons implant nonadjustable shunts. I was diagnosed with hydrocephalus as an adult (although they suspect that I've had it since childhood). I have an adjustable shunt, and would want the same for my child if he or she had hydrocephalus. Any truth to what I was told?

Same thing happened to my child. We hired a lawyer and sued the district for discrimination under Americans with Disabilities Act. Turns out the district was not providing the education that our child needed to receive an appropriate education. She needed a partially home-based program to meet her needs due to her medical condition. School districts use the truancy complaint to avoid their legal obligation.

Hi,
My name is Kate Wilber and my father has had Hydrocephalus for the last 36 years. He has had 82 neurosurgeries and is still struggling today with his condition. I am interested in organizing a walk in my local area in honor of my Dad and to help raise funds for research for Hydrocephalus. I would love any information you could give me on how to get started with organizing a walk.
Thanks and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Dr. Rekate is my son's Dr. I was so excited to see this powerpoint. I can't wait to show it to my son. Dr. Rekate is a no nonsense kind of guy, so it makes sense his powerpoint on this subject would be straight forward. My son is 17 so it is definitely time to gather this type of information. Very helpful. Thank you

This is great! I have a soon to be 5 year old daughter that has hydrocephalus. She is my life! There is not a day that goes by that I don't worry about her shunt. Maybe one day, this can be a thing of the past.

What an inspiration. As a shunt patient for 49 years, my daily running has kept me going. Although I have gone through 132 shunt revisions .Each time I am back home , I most look forward to being back on the road running.
My son Sean has been named this year- All American in the Sprint Triathlon. He runs with my name on his arms , next to his number. After winning the New Jersey State Triathalon he now wants to participate with friends and family to raise funds for hydrocephalus.

Thanks forthe inspiration
Let us know how you do
